Fantasy Free Agency: A Division a Day: AFC North

Updated: Apr 15, 2020

Cleveland Browns:

Jack Conklin: This is huge for the Browns. All the hype the Browns got last year was demolished because of a bad O-line. Baker Mayfield struggled to stay upright and when a pocket did exist, he didn’t trust it and scrambled away. Mayfield disappointed mightily, but there’s reason for optimism. His rookie season he showed flashes of greatness, breaking the rookie passing TD record.

After being burned from the hype last season, some people will be out altogether. The ADP could be ripe for the picking! The Browns reload with Jack Conklin, Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt, David Njoku (if they chose to keep him), and they add TE Austin Hooper in free agency. The ADP was too high for me last year and I luckily avoided all the Browns burn. This year I’ll be looking to take advantage of the people who aren’t willing to gamble on the Browns again.

Austin Hooper: Well… This landing spot sucks. He was heavily targeted as an Atlanta Falcon, instead of going to a TE needy team, he ends up on a team with too many mouths to feed. He’s the one Brown I’ll be indefinitely out on. I do not think he will carve out a big enough role on this roster to return value on his draft day stock. He’s fifth in line for touches behind OBJ, Landry, Chubb, and Hunt.

Case Keenum: I think this move is actually good for Mayfield, he’ll get to draw from the knowledge of an experienced veteran. Keenum’s a good back up, not good enough to push Mayfield out as the starter.

Cincinnati Bengals:

AJ Green: He was franchise tagged to help bring along likely first-round pick, Joe Burrow (or whoever they draft at QB). His name will carry a lot of cache but be aware of his declining age and injury proneness. I’m still willing to take a chance on his potential upside at the right price. His ADP will determine if I’m in or not, but based on his name value, he will likely be too high of a price for me to comfortably take him.

Pittsburgh Steelers:

Eric Ebron: Mehh. I’m not interested. Ebron built up a cache with his miraculous 13 TD season with QB Andrew Luck and people continue to chase that upside. Outside of that one season, Ebron has never had more than 5 TDs. His addition will help the Steelers’ options tremendously. He’ll make an impact but not a TE I’m willing to bet on.

Baltimore Ravens:

The Ravens did a great job on the defensive side of the ball. They franchise tagged Matt Judon, resigned Jimmy Smith to a one-year deal, and traded for Calais Campbell. The only offensive move the Ravens made was placing an original-round tender on restricted free agent C Matt Skura. The Ravens run it back with the same explosive offense as last year.
